Final Fantasy V now available on the PS Store

Final Fantasy V is now available for download on the PlayStation Store. This is the PlayStation version of the game that came bundled with Final Fantasy VI in Final Fantasy Anthology. Pre-rendered cinematics bookend the game’s opening and ending, exclusive to this version.

Final Fantasy V is $9.99 and 163 MB in size. Final Fantasy VI will be available on December 6th.

Final Fantasy V & VI head to PlayStation Network

As part of Square-Enix’s “Winter of RPGs” campaign, the PlayStation versions of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI will be available for download on the PlayStation Network on November 22nd and December 6th respectively. Chrono Cross will also be available this coming Tuesday, November 8th.

Final Fantasy V rated for PSN download

Japan and Europe got the announcement earlier on this spring, but now it seems North America will be getting the Final Fantasy Anthology version of Final Fantasy V to download off of the PlayStation Network. The ESRB rated the title for PS3 and PSP, signifiying that the game will be on it’s way soon. The PlayStation version of the game features cinematics that book-end the game, and was the first official version of the game to came to North America.

Final Fantasy V on Game Archives dated

Back in February we learned that the PlayStation version of Final Fantasy V was announced for the PlayStation Network’s “Game Archives” in Japan. Well now we have a date and price point. On Wednesday, April 6th, Japanese PSN users will be able to buy the game for approximately 1200 yen or roughly $14 USD. It should be noted that Final Fantasy V did release on the PlayStation in October of 1999 in North America (PAL territories in 2002) as part of “Final Fantasy Anthology” where it was bundled with Final Fantasy VI.

Update: Square-Enix Europe has announced this title for their PlayStation Network, with the release date pending.

Final Fantasy V slated for Japan’s PSN

Famitsu reports tonight that Final Fantasy V is headed to the Japanese PlayStation Network’s Game Archives this spring. The Super Nintendo version was previously released on Nintendo’s Virtual Console in January, and PSN will be getting the PlayStation version. More information will become available later throughout the spring via Square-Enix, and Famitsu provided two screenshots from the upcoming re-release.

FFV heads to Virtual Console

Square-Enix revealed that the SNES title Final Fantasy V will be making it’s way on to the Japanese Virtual Console this coming January along with Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Originally released in 1992 in Japan, Final Fantasy V has been ported to the PlayStation and Gameboy Advance near the turn of the century. FFV will cost approximately 800 Wii Points.

OCremix unveils 5-album FFV remix project

One of the newest projects the community is undertaking is an ambitious five album compilation remixing the music of Final Fantasy V. Eighteen years after the game’s release, the remix album entitled Final Fantasy V: The Fabled Warriors ~I. WIND~ aspires to recapture the adventurous themes of the game interpreted by a myriad of different artists. For a sampling of their work, view the video below!
