Amazon Sale – Final Fantasy Titles for Cheap!

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Didn’t think we would have an update the night before E3, but hopefully this helps give some attention to these titles. Amazon is having a “Grads and Dads” Sale (This is graduation season, and Father’s Day is coming up), and are having a special sale on handheld titles specifically. Lucky for Final Fantasy fans, there is a good selection available:

Final Fantasy Titles:
Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy [PSP] – $17.99 (40% Off)
Final Fantasy IV The Complete Collection [PSP] – $19.99 (33% Off)
Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light [DS] – $14.99 (40% Off)

Each of these titles is very different, but they all contribute something to the series in their own right, so if price was holding you back, now is a good time to bite! And just a side note, there are quite a few other Square Enix titles available:

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light released yesterday for those of us living in North American territories and will release this Friday for our European and PAL territory counterparts. A Nintendo DS game designed as a throwback to the NES era of Final Fantasy, The 4 Heroes of Light features a charming fairytale story of four youths who are given the power of the crystal to defeat the evil that is harming the people of their world. The game features a gorgeous storybook design and characters that can freely change between 28 different classes. Battles are also nostalgic of the NES era Final Fantasy games, but bring a new twist all the same.

Square-Enix is marking the occassion by launching a new competition in which you can submit your own Crown (Job) designs to potentially win a DS and a copy of the game. Plus, if you win, illustrator Yuka Miyamoto will personally design your job and abilities you submit! You must be signed up at the official Square-Enix Members page to enter, and the deadline is October 26th. You can learn more here.

The minigames of The 4 Heroes of Light

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

ff4holdgTwo Final Fantasy games coming out within a week of each other? This must be some bizarre alternate universe or something! But yes, with Final Fantasy XIV coming out on the 30th and Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light due on October 5th, this fall proves to be a big one for Final Fantasy fans. The official site for the domestic version updated this weekend with some videos of the mini-games you’ll encounter on your journey. They include a shopkeeper game in which you must make money by stocking the appropriate items and fulfilling customer requests. Anyone who’s played the DS remake of Final Fantasy IV will recognize “Scholar Bear’s Math Game” as “Rydia’s Mathemagic Minute”. Aside from some minor differences, it’s essentially the same. Check them out in the videos below!

The Musician players the role of a party buffer, and can cast Regen to regenerate the party’s health for three turns as well as abilities Nocturne and March to increase attack power and speed respectively. The Ninja is able to deftly evade attacks and employs the use of Moving Target and Target Dummy to avoid being hit. They are also able to Counter enemies when they avoid being hit. The Sage is a master of casting spells, and can use Spell Again to cast spells consecutively for the remainder of their current Action Point total. Sages are also able to use Diligence and Betterment to augment their spells by reducing their AP cost by one. Lastly, a Scribe will increase in power the longer that you play the game! Using Time they are able to deal damage based on how long you’ve played, and Wireless will deal damage on how much time you’ve spent in multiplayer. Crown will recover a character’s HP based on how developed their Crowns are.

There’s only one Crown left, and Square-Enix will be revealing it next week. You also can pre-order the game right now and receive a limited edition poster as a gift. Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light releases on October 5th in North America and October 7th in PAL territories.

Five new Crown jobs, preorder gift confirmed

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Square-Enix continues with their “Summer of Jobs” campaign, showing off a handful of new Crown jobs that will appear in Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light for the Nintendo DS this fall. New to the roster are the Alchemist, Shaman, Dark Fencer, Seamstress, and Beastmaster (as seen pictured below). The Crown job system allows players to switch hats (and effectively, jobs) on all four protagonists. Crowns can also be socketed with gems you find after battle to increase their rank and learn new abilities.

As per the official game blog, the Alchemist will be able transform items into other items, forge random attack items to be added to your inventory, and “Smelt” new combinations of items to be used for a variety of different effects. The Shaman employs the power of dark magic in battle to cast spells on all enemies. Interestingly “Curse” will increase the magic power of your next spell, but it will hit both enemy and ally alike. “Spellbound” will prevent both enemies and allies (assuming the Shaman is immune) and they will not be able to fight. As the Dark Fencer, you’ll be able to use “Dark Side” and “Darker Side” (lol) to inflict damage on your foes at the expense of your own HP. They will also be able to use “Eye for an Eye” to increase their strength the more damage they take. The Seamstress class will be a support class with “Patched Up” and “Stitched Up” adding buffs to your armor and weapons respectively. “Refurbish” allows them to revive a party member who has fallen in battle with the power of sewing of course! A Beastmaster will be able to “Capture” weakened enemies in battle, as well as employ a “Gentle” attack to deal a small amount of damage to an enemy presumably to avoid killing it for capture. They will also be able to “Command” party members who have been transformed into animals attack at once.

The FFT4HOL blog also reveals a big announcement for next week, including more videos of gameplay and a pre-order gift for those who reserve the game. Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light releases stateside on October 5th and October 8th for PAL territories.

Defend yourself with the “Paladin” Crown!

Friday, August 6th, 2010

The newest addition to the massive list of “Crowns” (or jobs) is the Paladin, a classic Final Fantasy class that plays defensively “and doesn’t afraid of anything!” . This unique class will be utilized in defending other party members from damage all while putting up a decent defense with armor. The abilities the Paladin will bring into battle include “Cover”, which will shield allies from enemy attacks (that will damage the paladin instead). Other abilities include: “Bait”, which will provoke enemies to attack you instead of your friends and “Avenge”, which will increase your physical power when an enemy is targeting you for an attack. There’s one more ability listed as well called “Last Stand”. While no description of it is given, perhaps it will be an ability used while the paladin or his/her allies is in critical health status.

Brandt, Jusqua, Unita, and Aire display the Paladin Crown.

Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light features a Crown system similar to the classic Final Fantasy job system. Crowns (whether they be helms or hats) of all types represent their individual jobs and bestow their respective wearer with abilities specific to that Crown. White Mage, Black Mage, Fighter, Ranger, and Bard are just some of the jobs recently revealed in Square-Enix’s “Summer of Jobs” blog on the official website. There are some new takes on some classic jobs and some entirely new ones as well!

The game features a take on the classic NES-era Final Fantasy games, from turn-based battle systems to charming characters and locales. Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light is exclusive to the Nintendo DS, and will be available for North American audiences on October 5th, 2010 for $34.99 USD. You can also pre-order now at Gamestop’s website. European audiences will only wait until October 8th, 2010 to get their hands on the RPG.
