Five new Crown jobs, preorder gift confirmed

August 14th, 2010 by Tony Garsow

Square-Enix continues with their “Summer of Jobs” campaign, showing off a handful of new Crown jobs that will appear in Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light for the Nintendo DS this fall. New to the roster are the Alchemist, Shaman, Dark Fencer, Seamstress, and Beastmaster (as seen pictured below). The Crown job system allows players to switch hats (and effectively, jobs) on all four protagonists. Crowns can also be socketed with gems you find after battle to increase their rank and learn new abilities.

As per the official game blog, the Alchemist will be able transform items into other items, forge random attack items to be added to your inventory, and “Smelt” new combinations of items to be used for a variety of different effects. The Shaman employs the power of dark magic in battle to cast spells on all enemies. Interestingly “Curse” will increase the magic power of your next spell, but it will hit both enemy and ally alike. “Spellbound” will prevent both enemies and allies (assuming the Shaman is immune) and they will not be able to fight. As the Dark Fencer, you’ll be able to use “Dark Side” and “Darker Side” (lol) to inflict damage on your foes at the expense of your own HP. They will also be able to use “Eye for an Eye” to increase their strength the more damage they take. The Seamstress class will be a support class with “Patched Up” and “Stitched Up” adding buffs to your armor and weapons respectively. “Refurbish” allows them to revive a party member who has fallen in battle with the power of sewing of course! A Beastmaster will be able to “Capture” weakened enemies in battle, as well as employ a “Gentle” attack to deal a small amount of damage to an enemy presumably to avoid killing it for capture. They will also be able to “Command” party members who have been transformed into animals attack at once.

The FFT4HOL blog also reveals a big announcement for next week, including more videos of gameplay and a pre-order gift for those who reserve the game. Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light releases stateside on October 5th and October 8th for PAL territories.
